O.M.A.R. s.r.l. how is it changing?

The digitisation services which O.M.A.R. s.r.l. has been using for years in order to manage price lists, offers, manuals and projects, generate an advantage for the environmental community. The numbers speak of 120,000 sheets of paper used in one year. About 180 reams of paper per year. Thanks to digitisation, we have cut down to 41,000 sheets used in daily work activities, saving approximately 79,000 sheets a year.
We have done some calculations in order to reach this result. According to an estimate by WWF, in order to produce one kilogram of plain paper (the type normally used in printers), 0.7 kg of cellulose are needed. In order to produce one kilogram of cellulose, 0.0036 cubic metres of wood are needed. One ream of 500 A4 (21 x 29.7 cm) 80-gram sheets of paper, weighs 2.494 kg per square metre. Therefore, to produce one ream we would need 2.494 x 0.7= 1.7458 kg of cellulose, equivalent to 0.00628 cubic metres of wood. One cubic metre of wood, which according to these calculations translates into 159 reams of paper, or 79,500 sheets, can be obtained from a pine tree with average diameter and height of 15 metres.

Recycling is a duty

According to Greenpeace, Italians have one of the world’s highest paper consumption pro capita: approximately 200 kg, or about 80 reams of A4 paper. This means that a family of 4 “uses up” 2 tree a year. Therefore, the codeword is recycling: the paper that is normally used in printers, once it is recycled, has a yield ranging between 80 and 90%. This means that 100 sheets of new paper, duly processed, makes it possible to obtain 80-90 sheets of recycled paper. Translated into trees, it means that 200-220 reams of recycled paper are the equivalent of saving one tree.

Green IT

O.M.A.R. s.r.l. adopts a green and energy-efficient approach in the development of the infrastructure and of the systems, for the purpose of meeting the growing need for energy and for spaces intended for IT, spaces that must be managed with a reduction of environmental, economic and social impacts, at the same time safeguarding the high level of quality and reliability of the rendered services, including with consumption balancers.


Cooling systems featuring Free-cooling technology will be implemented this upcoming year and will result in significant energy savings since they use external air to cool down the premises. This system, typically used to cool down the water contained in the conditioning circuits of the CEDs, makes it possible to achieve energy savings ranging from 30% to 60%. Although O.M.A.R. enjoys particularly favourable climatic conditions in both the offices and in the production department, has implemented Free-Cooling technology, developing a water cooling system capable of working for most of the year with no need for the compressors of the direct expansion circuit to switch on, thus allowing additional energy savings.
